Hot Meals

Dining HallBesides feeding our residents, anyone in the community (regardless of income) may come and eat in our kitchen. We serve three nutritious meals per day, 365 days per year (with some modifications for holiday schedules). In the past fiscal year we served 116,728 meals. Food Baskets

Food PantryFor the working poor who frequent our hot meal services it can be quite difficult to go home to empty cupboards. To help these individuals with their grocery needs, the Washington City Mission provides non-perishable food items through our food pantry. The food amounts are based on family sized and can only be requested once a month. These food baskets often act as a supplement to the Greater Washington County Food Bank. In the past year, the Washington City Mission gave out over 1,500 food baskets. This averages about 127 families a month.

Furniture

FurnitureMany of our residents require furniture when they exit our program. In order to make their new apartment a home, we give them furniture out of our Last Chance Bargain Center. This service is also available to victims of natural disater(flood, fire) and any other person in the community with a documented need.

Almost 2,500 pieces of furniture and household items were given away last year. These items can also be purchased at a nominal cost from any of our Hidden Treasures Stores or the Last Chance Bargain Center.

Transportation

Residents often have appointments in Pittsburgh. Appointments range from Doctor and Dental appointments to Legal visits to Family Visitation. Some of our residents leave children behind when they enter our program. Without a bus ticket many of the residents would not be able to see their children. Non-Residents are given bus tickets on a case by case basis and are usually reserved for emergency situations. Bus fares given away last year totaled almost 450.

Referrals

The Washington City Mission cannot help everyone. When someone comes off the street requiring services that we do not provide, we refer them to local and government agencies that can give them the help they need. For more information about these agencies that we partner with, click here.
