The teachers from the Washington Park Elementary School where the children normally attend, have made sure the students have what they need to succeed.  Amber Miller, Manager of Women with Children Program says. “The teachers have been great. They’ve made sure the kids have what they need to continue learning and not fall behind in their studies. They brought packets to the mission containing all the subjects for the students in their grade level. They included a chrome book for Jade who is a third grader.”

Jade works online with her teachers who walk her through all of her studies. After a certain number of packets are completed, the staff notify the teachers who then drop off more work for the students.  Amber says this about City Mission’s stay- at- home-school, “It seems to be working well! I just want to see the kids excel and not fall behind. They deserve the best.”

During school time sessions mothers are required to stay with their children. Together they are learning valuable lessons.  The moms are helping their kids with reading, math, spelling and other subjects but building close bonds as well.  “Everyone is learning and loving it!” says Amber, “These kids have a special place in my heart, they are such a blessing! They are our future.”

Women with Children are the fastest growing homeless population in America.  A leading cause for female homelessness is domestic violence.
